Large energy companies have to adhere to strict cybersecurity and compliance regulations. This means they must stay on top of every product update and vulnerability notice from all systems and software vendors within the enterprise.
In order to ensure their systems are secured against cyber attacks and data breaches, this Fortune 200 Utility Company’s Cyber Vulnerability team was managing product vulnerability notices from many manufacturers and security organizations across seven sources of device information, then working with various teams to quantify and rank exposure and track mitigate/remediation efforts.
The team wanted help collecting operational technology device information from all of their disparate systems and consolidating them into one place with uniform records so they could perform research across the entire enterprise inventory, mitigate risks faster, and keep their devices safe.
Solution: A Custom Solution Helps Teams Cut Response time in half
Although the company uses ServiceNow for their IT Service Desk, they needed a solution that was fast to deploy and customizable to solve this unique problem. That is why Praecipio recommended a Jira Service Management solution to their Cyber Vulnerability team.
Praecipio implemented and customized JSM to collect device information from seven disparate systems, including ServiceNow CMDB, into JSM Assets. Now by using a single enterprise level data source, vulnerabilities are assessed in less than half the time and remediation work items are created and routed to the right business units, where business unit teams can address vulnerabilities and make the right updates faster.
Once the company started to realize the cost savings from the first effort, it engaged Praecipio to expand the program to include three more asset types across eight more sources.
